A mosaic tile quantity takeoff starts from net field area, then adds a waste band set by pattern geometry, sheet format, cut density and how many termination pieces the detail needs. Book attic stock as a separate line, not as part of waste. Our [cut
A mosaic tile specification fails when it names a product but not a test method, a tolerance without a measurement protocol, or a sample without an acceptance rule. Write it in three parts, put every performance claim next to the method that proves i
Mosaic tile thickness rarely fails an installation, but gauge spread — the thickness difference between pieces in one sheet and between sheets in a lot — regularly does. Specify the nominal thickness, the permitted spread, the measurement method and
A mosaic tile factory audit answers three questions no document package can settle: whether the plant can repeat your specification, whether it will disclose a drifting lot, and whether a pallet can be traced to the batch that made it. Walk the proce
A mosaic tile sample library is a physical, indexed set of chips, sheets and presentation boards that lets a specifier or end client judge color, finish, scale and joint pattern before ordering. Screens cannot replace it, because mosaic is judged on
Mosaic tile handover is the point where responsibility for the finished surface moves from the installing trade to the owner, and it is the moment every later claim is measured against. Three things have to exist in writing: a document package provin
Shade variation in mosaic tile is a designed property, not a defect. It exists by intent at chip level, by pattern at sheet level, and by batch at lot level. A dispute rarely comes from the tile being “wrong”; it comes from the order never saying whi
Mosaic tile is not small-format tile. It arrives as a mounted sheet, the cutting unit is a single chip typically measured in tens of millimeters, and every cut breaks the sheet’s composite action and exposes unglazed body. Cutting quality therefore d
There is no single “fire rating” for mosaic tile. What a project usually needs is a reaction-to-fire classification for the surface layer, plus confirmation that the build-up behind the tile already carries the fire-resistance rating the code require
Mosaic tile grout haze is a thin cement or epoxy film left on the tile face when the joint is finished and the cleanup is mistimed, rushed or done with dirty water. It is a workmanship condition, not a material defect. Most of it is removable, but re
Mosaic tile efflorescence is a salt deposit left behind when water moves through a cementitious assembly and evaporates at the surface. It needs three things at once — soluble salt, free water and a path to the face. Remove the water and it stops; re
A mosaic tile movement joint is a planned gap, sealed rather than grouted, that lets the tile field absorb substrate movement, thermal cycling and moisture change without cracking or tenting. It belongs at every perimeter, every change of plane, over
Mosaic tile lippage is rarely a tile defect. In most assemblies that fail acceptance, the raised edge comes from a substrate plane that was outside tolerance before the first sheet was set, a sheet that arrived bowed, or a bond line that was never co
Choose the mosaic tile adhesive against four variables at once: the tile body and its absorption, the sheet backing system, the substrate and its movement, and the service exposure. Standard modified cementitious mortar covers most dry interior work;
Mosaic tile performs well over radiant heating, but the failure modes are not the ones an unheated floor produces. Specify substrate moisture and flatness tolerances, a deformable adhesive rated for thermal movement, movement joints at every boundary
